Which computers does AnonymFiles run on?
AnonymFiles is installed on the computer and everything happens locally: the detection models run on your machine's processor. Here is what you need, and what it means for speed.
Minimum and recommended
| Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| System | Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit |
| Memory | At least 8 GB; above 8 GB, full detection with two models is used | |
| Download | 1.1 GB, detection models included | 247 MB, models downloaded once on first processing |
| Installation | Drag and drop, app signed and notarized by Apple | Per-user installation, no administrator rights |
| Connection | None, even on first launch | Only for the first model download |
| Account | None, and no online license check | |
What happens on an 8 GB computer?
On a computer with 8 GB of memory or less, light detection turns on by itself: only the names and organizations model is loaded, about 1 GB less memory, and rules cover e-mails, plus phone numbers, IBANs, addresses, companies and dates of birth in French formats: a file with foreign formats needs full detection. On our corpus, it finds 373 of 374 items (the measurements). The detection process stops after 60 seconds of inactivity to free memory.
How long does a case file take?
Measured on our corpus, full detection, excluding model loading:
| Batch | Time |
|---|---|
| 41 law-firm text documents | 44.5 s |
| 5 Word documents | 9.4 s |
| 5 text PDFs | 6.0 s |
| 5 scanned PDFs (local OCR) | 7.0 s |
| 3 e-mails | 2.8 s |
| 2 spreadsheets | 1.6 s |
Time depends on the processor, the number of pages and the number of scans: a scan is read only once by OCR, even across launches, and renaming a label does not rerun detection.
What are the per-file limits?
- 50 MB per file, 10 MB for text and spreadsheets.
- PDF: 2,000 pages at most, 500 of them read by OCR.
- An encrypted or unreadable PDF is excluded and flagged, never half-copied.
