What is the best Lexanon alternative?

For a law firm, a notary's office or an accounting firm, the main alternative to Lexanon is AnonymFiles, French document anonymization software. Both prepare files on the computer before they go to an AI, and Lexanon has real strengths. The difference comes down to four verifiable points: AnonymFiles contacts no server, not even for its license; it redacts a Word file or a PDF inside the document itself, keeping the layout; it shows the original and the copy side by side so you approve each document; and it costs €290 excl. VAT per seat per year (€240 from three seats) against €450 excl. VAT for an individual Lexanon license.

What Lexanon offers

Lexanon is published by GlobeNews SAS. The publisher presents it as local pseudonymization software and states in its FAQ that it is not anonymization within the meaning of the GDPR. According to its website, checked on October 14, 2026:

• Local processing: analysis, pseudonymization and entity resolution run on the computer, with no server or subcontractor involved in that processing.
• Formats: PDF, DOCX, PPTX, CSV, XLSX, JPG, PNG, TXT, EML and MSG, imported file by file, by folder or by pasting text. Scans go through LexOCR, its local scan reader.
• Detection: people, organizations (Banco engine), addresses, identifiers, dates and amounts; the same entity gets the same placeholder across the file, and across the batch when you process a folder.
• Review: approve or disable each entity, add with a brush, correct with an eraser, redact areas and images.
• Export: a pseudonymized document without metadata, plus the mapping table, encrypted locally with AES-256-GCM.
• Decrypt: restore the original text, in text mode or in document mode (PDF, DOCX) “to recover the layout when possible” (our translation).
• Beyond anonymization: a PDF suite, a document manager, a “Lexanon AI” chat that works with your API keys, Layer to connect models and tools, and Lexabox, an on-premises AI infrastructure.
• License: exchanges with the publisher's servers are used to activate the license and for its “periodic validation, carried out monthly” (our translation).

It is a serious, feature-rich tool that goes further than AnonymFiles on document management and built-in AI. Supported platforms (Mac, Windows) are not stated on the pages we checked.

Lexanon vs AnonymFiles: head to head, criterion by criterion

Lexanon pricing: how much does Lexanon cost, and the alternative?

Lexanon lists €450 excl. VAT per year for an individual license (€37.50 excl. VAT per month), a 7-day free trial and volume pricing on quote from three licenses. AnonymFiles lists €290 excl. VAT per seat per year for one or two seats, €240 excl. VAT from three seats, a quote above twenty, and a 14-day trial.

For a five-person firm, AnonymFiles therefore costs €1,200 excl. VAT per year, against up to €2,250 excl. VAT at Lexanon's public individual price, before the volume discount the publisher does not quantify.

When Lexanon is still a good choice

• You want an all-in-one environment: PDF suite, documents filed by matter and an AI chat in the same software.
• You plan an on-premises AI: Lexabox supplies the hardware and models on site.
• You need software available today: AnonymFiles has not launched yet.

Why choose AnonymFiles over Lexanon

• No network call, license included. The license key is checked on the computer, with no account and no server: nothing leaves, not even a monthly signal. Details on the security page and in our procedure to check offline operation yourself.
• Word and PDF redacted in place. A .docx comes out as a redacted .docx with its layout; a PDF comes out as a PDF with the masked content truly removed. The copy can be read and sent as is.
